First and second division clubs from Catalonia came together,
unanimously pledging to work towards internationalization of Catalan
sporting outfits. FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol and other Catalan
football clubs in Second Division and Segunda B pledged to work
towards the "internationalization" of the Catalan sports teams. It was
established in an initialled agreement with platform clubs in
Catalonia. All sports teams with the exception of L'Hospitalet signed.
The agreement was signed at the Palau de la Generalitat. During the
signing, the president of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, thanked the
sporting organizations for their "sense of country" and commitments to
Catalonia. "The intention is normal," said Mas, who has argued that
Catalonia can compete internationally with their own teams, and that
there is sufficient community to realize this ambition.
Mas made a comparison with the latest manifestation of the dyad that
filled the streets of Barcelona. He added that in Catalonia there
were many people who want to support Catalan outfits, which was
evident by the "ribbon" to point out, irrespective of the current
economic crisis. According to President, the success they have
achieved with Catalans ProSeleccions has ensured that the
internationalization of Catalonia in sporting competitions "should not
cause alarm."
The event was attended by the president of FC Barcelona, Sandro
Rosell, the RCD Espanyol, Barcelona Ramon, the Girona FC, Joaquim
Boadas, and CF Badalona, Miguel Angel Sanchez; the latter two are in
the second division. As for the Segunda Division B outfits, UE
Llagostera, Lleida Esportiu Terraferma CF, AE Prat, CF Reus Esportiu,
UE Sant Andreu and Gimnastic Tarragona attended.
The president of the Catalans ProSeleccions, Xavier Vinyals, noted in
his speech that there is a majority of Catalans who advocate for
Catalan teams. Moreover, he added that the agreement reached will be a
"benchmark for other sports and for the country." On the behalf of the
sporting entities, the president of the Unio Esportiva Llagostera,
Tarragó Isabel, spoke. He indicated that soccer/football is the
favourite pastime in Catalonia, and they are proud that their clubs
are the "first" to make way.
Vicente Del Bosque and RFEF will be taking great interest in the
follow-ups, given the importance of Barcelona in La Liga and the
Catalan players highlighted role for the Spanish national team.
